City West builds new opportunities
City West Housing Trust, based in Salford, is committed to
transforming the lives of not just it’s customers but for the
residents in West Salford.
They are investing over £235 million in the next five years to
improve the properties and the communities it works in,
transforming them into homes and areas their customers are proud to
live in. As part of this investment, City West has pledged to
invest in people too, by providing opportunities of employment to
people in the local community with the City West Works Skills
Programme.
City West has appointed the contractors to deliver the programme
of improvement work – who have each made a commitment to employ
local trainees. From August 2009, for every £2 million spent by
City West with a contractor they will create 3 jobs within their
own organisation.
The City West Works Skills Programme is already up and running
and received nearly 900 applications for 37 positions. The first 12
trainees start their three-week training programme on 7th
September, and the remaining 25 will start their training later in
the month and into October. It is anticipated that more jobs will
be available from February 2010, please keep an eye on our website
for more details.
